What Happens in Vegas is a comedy waiting to happen. It takes an old premise (drunk strangers regretting their decision to get married in Las Vegas) and adds in a dilemma (a $3 million slot machine win) that could've been easily resolved. But then again, there would've been no movie if the unhappily wedded couple figured out that splitting the money in half and getting their marriage annulled would've been quick and effective. Cameron Diaz plays uptight clean-freak Joy, who has just been dumped by her fiance. Ashton Kutcher is Jack, a slacker furniture maker who has been fired--by his own dad. Each goes to Vegas to let off some steam. And while they have nothing in common (except being exceptionally good looking) they make out, get married, and fight over the money Jack wins with Joy's quarter. Instead of letting the couple get divorced, a judge sentences the odd couple to half a year of marriage. What happens in Vegas doesn't stay in Vegas, but extends into New York where Jack and Joy live. Both actors have fared well in comedies, especially Diaz in My Best Friend's Wedding. And while Kutcher still has to live down Dude, Where's My Car?, he showed a lot of comedic flair and charm in A Lot Like Love. But the two face an uphill battle here with inane dialogue and a premise that not only is unbelievable, but unlikeable. The two are so incompatible (and immature) they can't even control bathroom time and, in Jack's case, his bladder. --Jae-Ha Kim

Better than I thoughtWhat Happens in Vegas (Widescreen Edition) - Harry Potter 6 Books
I didn't have high hopes for this one other than a dopey comedy that would entertain me for an hour and a half. I think this film succeeds in many ways. It is a good comedy. Not overwhelmingly funny, but solid throughout. It uses the characters wisely. Kutcher plays a slacker who loses his job and Diaz plays a regimented wall street worker who just got dumped. They come together in Vegas and after a wild night together they find themselves married. They plan to quickly annul the marriage until a 3 million dollar pull of a slot machine. In their battle over the money, they find that they must stay married for 6 months. During that time, they each try to make each other crazy as possible and to stop the other one from getting the money. You can probably guess the ending of the movie, it is typical hollywood, but still the ride was to the end was nice. I found it to be a charming and funny movie, with two likable leads.

What happens in Vegas happens in my living room, too! What Happens in Vegas (Widescreen Edition) - Harry Potter 6 Books
Call me weird, but I like goofball romantic comedies. "What Happens in Vegas" is definitely goofball. I found it both funny and romantic. My brother would call it a chick flick and he definitely likes chick flicks and this movie.

So, is it any good? I've rented it twice and enjoyed it the second time as much as the first. I like Cameron Diaz and now I like Ashton Kutcher. OK, here's the deal. I liked him in "Coast Guard" with Kevin Costner (filmed in Shreveport). I like him in his camera commercials. He has enough money for his own production company. That unshaped hair has never been attractive, but in the party scene toward the end of the movie, Joy (Cameron) tells him he cleans up really nice. And he does! I've never found him attractive until then when he becomes quite the heart throb.

The film has a silly premise to work with (but what about some of the romantic Cary Grant movies--weren't they called goofball comedies?). "What Happens in Vegas" happens because Joy has been dumped by an anal-retentive fiance; Jack (Ashton) has been dumped by his dad (fired). The two throw caution to the wind and go to Vegas with their friends to forget their troubles, meet, get drunk, have a heck of a time together, get married because they are too drunk to consider consequences, wake up, and discover reality. Then comes a three-million-dollar jackpot!

The divorce judge (Dennis Miller with some hilarious lines) tells them they must stay together for six months before he will give them a divorce. During that time they must undergo marital counseling. Two people were never more different! Together for six months! It's a trial but one that has a 50-50 chance of working.

(Judy judgment: I know this Indian couple whose marriage was arranged. He did not go against his Indian heritage and protest the arrangement. He followed it and has a very happy marriage. It was their intention to make it work. Now consider how it is done in America. What is the chance of success--50-50.)

After living together six months without the tension of intimacy, Jack and Joy end up knowing each other well, or at least each other's bad points, and inadvertently some of the good points--more than enough to build on.

The old saying goes: Whatever happens in Vegas stays in Vegas. Not always. Not when you marry someone you just met. Can you salvage it? Do you dump it, too? Or do you find a judge who makes you make it work?

I really like this movie!

if u must then RENT ITWhat Happens in Vegas (Widescreen Edition) - Harry Potter 6 Books
If you really intend on watching this movie then go ahead and rent it. Its good for a few laughs induced by some silly comedy but that's just about it. If you have seen one Ashton Kutcher comedy then you have seen them all, his abilities in comedic acting are pretty much one dimensional and try as he might he just could not keep up with Cameron Diaz's comedic skills for sure.
